Group Reservations: All softball fields, camping and picnic site reservations are made by calling Park Police Headquarters. Special event requests are processed by the division of Visitor Services at the Haggerty Education Center. Some meeting rooms are available for rent to non-profit groups on a limited basis.
"Ranger" Newsletter: Listing upcoming events, the Park Commission's newsletter is mailed twice a month to Morris County residents who request this service.
Conservation and Preservation
Future generations will enjoy the benefits of open space thanks to the voters of Morris County, who have encouraged land acquisition and conservation of critical water supplies. Linear greenways, such as Patriots' Path, protect the integrity of river systems throughout the region. Land banks in James Andrews Park, Mt. Paul Memorial Park and Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area represent the Park Commissions's commitment to maintain an appropriate balance between development and open space.
Sports and Recreation
All-purpose parks offer informal areas for summer and winter sports in natural settings. Picnic sites and softball fields abound, with ample parking, tables and barbecues. Some parks have shelters and designated areas which can be reserved in advance for group outings. Well-maintained sports facilites attract golfers, skaters and horseback riders, along with other sports enthusiasts. Some parks have swimming and boating.
Culture and Education
Horticultural facilities provide inviting pathways for leisurely strolls on self-guiding trails. Information about gardening programs is available at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. The Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center provides appreciation of the region's natural resources with programs and classes. Historic sites give the visitor access to the heritage of Morris County. Special events and guided tours at fosterfields and Cooper Mill offer knowledge of farming and milling at the turn of the century.

Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center -- At Longview Road in Chester township. Maintained primarily as a natural area. Facilities: Cross country skiing, gardens, hiking trail and nature trail.
Cooper Mill at Black River Park -- At Route 24 and State Park Road in Chester township. Centered around the historic Cooper Mill, families can enjoy programs presented about life in the 1800's. Facilities: Educational programs, family picnic sites, fishing, historic site, restrooms and riding trails.
Elizabeth D. Kay Environmental Center at Black River Park -- 200 Pottersville Road in Chester township. Facilities: Educational programs, hiking trail and information center.
Flanders Valley Golf Course -- On Pleasant Hill Road Mt. Olive and Roxbury townships. Facilities: Golf, restrooms and snack bar. Seasonal schedule.
Fosterfields Living Historical Farm -- On Route 24 and Kahdena Road in Morris township. Facilities: Educational programs, hiking trail, information center, meeting room and restrooms. Seasonal schedule.
Frelinghuysen Arboretum -- At 53 East Hanover Avenue, Hanover and Morris townships. The Arboretum is a wonderland of immaculately kept gardens. Seasonal programs offer information on gardening and related subjects, and the grounds provide a beautiful backdrop for summer outdoor concerts. Facilities: Cross country skiing, educational programs, gardens, hiking trail, information center, meeting room, nature trail, outdoor concerts and restrooms.
Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center -- At 247 Southern Boulevard, Chatham. Once a giant lake 30 miles by ten miles created by a glacier 4,000 years ago, there are now over 6,000 acres of marshes and swamps which are an ideal refuge for birds, deer, small mamals, reptiles and amphibians. Trails and wooden walkways lead into the swamp. Congress designated the eastern half of the area as a Wilderness Area in 1968, protecting it from motorized vehicles, equipment and permanent structures. The western half is managed to preserve the wildlife and its habitat. In addition to the Education Center, there is also a Wildlife Observation Center off Long Hill Road, with trails, displays, blinds for observering and photographing wildlife, and an information booth. Hedden Park -- At Concord Road, Reservoir Avenue and Ford Street in Dover. Facilities: Ballfield, bike trail, boating, cross-country skiing, family picnic sites, fishing, group picnic areas, group picnic shelter, hiking trail, ice skating, lake, outdoor concerts and restrooms.
James Andrew Memorial Park -- On West Hanover Avenue in Randolph township. Undeveloped.
Lewis Morris Park and Cultural Center -- On Route 24 in Harding, Mendham and Morris townships. As a general purpose park with many attractions covering a wide range of activities. Facilities: Ballfield, boating, camping, cross-country skiing, family picnic sites, fishing, fitness stations, group picnic areas, group picnic shelter, hiking trail, ice skating, information center, lake, meeting room, outdoor concerts, restrooms, riding trails, sledding, snack bar and swimming.
Loantaka Brook Reservation -- At Kitchell Road and South Street in Chatham, Harding and Morris townships. A linear park stretching along the Loantaka Brook which has over 574 acres consisting of four separate areas. Facilities: Ballfield, bike trail, camping, cross-country skiing, family picnic sites, fishing, fitness stations, group picnic areas, group picnic shelter, hiking trail, lake and riding trails.
Mahlon Dickerson Reservation and Saffin-Rock Reservation -- On Weldon Road in Jefferson township. Some of the finest hiking trails and camping facilities in the Morris County Park System are found here. Facilities: Ballfield, camping, cross-country skiing, educational programs, family picnic sites, fishing, group picnic areas, hiking trail, ice skating, lake, outdoor concerts, restrooms and riding trails.
Mennon Sports Arena -- On East Hanover Avenue in Morristown and Morris township. Facilities: Ballfield, educational programs, ice skating, meeting room, restrooms and snack bar.
Minnisink Park -- On Minnisink Road in Jefferson and Roxbury townships. Undeveloped.
Mount Hope Park -- On Richard Mine Road in Rockaway Township. Undeveloped.
Old Troy Park -- On Reynolds Avenue in the Parsippany Troy-Hills township. Facilities: Ballfield, cross-country skiing, family picnic sites, fishing, group picnic areas, hiking trail and outdoor concerts.
Passaic River Park -- On River Road in Chatham and Passaic townships. Facilities: Ballfield, cross-country skiing, family picnic sites, fishing, hiking trail and ice skating.
Patriot's Path -- At Inamere Road and Lake Valley Road in Morris township. One of the linear greenways protecting the area rivers. Facilities: Bike trail, cross-country skiing, family picnic sites, fishing and hiking trail.
Pinch Brook Golf Course -- On Ridgedale Avenue Road in Florham Park borough and East Hanover township. Facilities: Golf, restrooms and snack bar. Seasonal schedule.
Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area -- On Boonton Avenue in of Kinnelon borough and Montville township. The trails of Pyramid Mountain wind past "Tripod Rock", an immense boulder held suspended on three smaller boulders. The area is home to many plant and animal species. Facilities: Hiking trail, riding trails and snack bar. Seasonal schedule.
Schooley's Mountain Park -- On Springtown Road in Washington township. Facilities: Ballfield, boating, cross-country skiing, educational programs, family picnic sites, fishing, group picnic areas, group picnic shelter, hiking trail, ice skating, information center, lake, meeting rooms, nature trail, outdoor concerts, restrooms, riding trails, sledding and swimming. Silas Condict Park -- On Kinnelon Road in Kinnelon borough. Facilities: Ballfield, boating, cross-country skiing, family picnic sites, fishing, group picnic areas, group picnic shelter, hiking trail, ice skating, lake, meeting rooms, outdoor concerts and restrooms.
Sunset Valley Golf course -- On Sunset Road in Kinnelon borough and Pequannock township. Facilities: Golf, restrooms and snack bar. Seasonal schedule.
Tourne Park -- On Powerville Road and Old Denville Road in Boonton and Denville townships and Mountain Lakes borough. Facilities: Ballfield, cross-country skiing, group picnic areas, hiking trail, nature trail, outdoor concerts, restrooms, riding trails and snack bar.
Traction Line Recreation Trail -- On Morris Avenue at Route 287 in Morristown and Morris township. Facilities: Bike trail, cross-country skiing, fitness stations and hiking trail.
Willowwood Arboretum -- On Longview Road in Chester township. Facilities: Cross-country skiing, educational programs, gardens, hiking trail and nature trail.
